Almost there

We - my parents, Zdenek and Tonda - managed to paint and repaint twice the walls and install some lights. I framed my paintings, finished writing the names of the planets, prepared some alters. We covered hole in the 'wall', got rid of annoying rusty stuff and so on. A lot of work was done and still we would need one more day to finish everything. Here are few photos I managed to get of my cell phone. (My cell phone does not want to communicate with me nor my computer so I can't upload more photos. But here are few.)

Exhibition Space

Since Wednesday I try to do something with the space at KC Vltavska. I started by cleaning the place and then slowly I started to paint the worst looking wall. Now after two days the wall is more less white. I tried to get rid of the dust from the ground and from the wooden 'walls' but doing it 3x times and still getting no good result was a waste of time.

During night I was sewing my little sheets of fabric so I could stick my calligraphy on it. I was afraid that many things would go awry but in the end here's the result! (4x to bauhaus, my record today^^)
I though that the calligraphy almost ready and in place was a small victory today...after seeing the photo I can't say that I'm satisfied. Erm. In reality it looks good...
>BR?

With my friend's help we managed to set up the dark fabric that will form a background for my solar system. So on Sunday I'll measure everything and glue the planets onto the fabric. More things to come!

As for the rest...we will see on Sunday. There are few things that won't work out. I need to find an alternative and I need to find a way how to conceal the door and do something with the terrible space....argh. I spent time there to make it look better and it still does not feel ok.

Calligraphy - Shiratori Youko

For the second scroll I decided to write the name Shiratori Youko. Shiratori means Swan in Japanese and Youko is Western Girl. I used this calligraphy for my name seal. New ink^^.

Calligraphy - I'm going my way

Hm haven't done any calligraphy in few years. Probably needs more. My hand needs to realize that I need it to write, haven't used it in a while. ^_^
The ink is old and did not behave the way it should. So I need to get a new one.
EDIT: got a new ink, second version thus.

Exhibition Proposal

Concept
For the whole while studying at Prague College I was trying to find out who I am and how to express myself in various ways. I'm looking for my style. I'm looking for a way how to show my experiences through my works. The exhibition will feature several works that are direct links to what I like - Japan (and part of its pop culture - music games), Magic: The Gathering (representing trading card games) and part of a solar system (representing my interest in astronomy and science).

Space plan
On this plan you can see the measurements for my space. You can see two rooms and one long corridor. In the first room there will be items that are linked with Japan. My Fujiyama painting, calligraphy and Beatmania IIDX painting showing my hands and the game controller. In the other room there will be 'S'Tsung playing legacy' (where lagacy is written). There will be a table under the painting. On it there will be real Magic: The Gathering cards so you can link it with what I'm doing in the painting. On my side, there should also be some of the cards I altered (to be more precise photocopies of them - due to high cost of the cards.)

laf12.cz

The site is up and running, I still miss some photos and I need Veronika to send me the handwritten images for links. But as the exhibition is already being promoted the site needs to be online and have the information needed.

Ratio of the three planets...

(I feel sick once again, can't stare into 3dsmax for long...)

Final Render - Mercury

In this case I had to divine half of the planet. It's mostly noise with some white scratches on it.

Final Render - Venus

Venus has a beautiful surface but it can be hardly seen through the atmosphere. I decided to show the surface a bit so visitors to our exhibition could view it. (maybe I'll change my mind but for the time being I like it this way)

Final Render Earth

So this is my final render of planet Earth. This should be printed on A1 and cut... More to come hopefully. Next it should be Venus.

LAF12 Website

After weeks of discussing the overall identity of out exhibition Veronika came up with beautiful design. I received few files from which I can work but I doubt that this is the source file. In order to fit the wordfind on my screen I have moved some students' names around. I used the original layout for the site and it gave me something like this

I actually like the look of this but it wouldn't show the whole wordfind on a smaller screen or when the browser window would be 'windowed'. So I need to come with a different solution. I'm messing with left column but I don't like it at all...Under the bubble I would add the relevant information about the exhibition.

More to come, but I really don't have time for this.

Space Project

My life being screwed up pretty much, too much work and too much stress to come. Not any good for an artistic exhibition. Anyway I need to carry out my plans so here's few numbers I'll need. I'd like to present Mercury, Venus and Earth (being the dominant) in a way that it would represent the real Solar System model. I took the average distance from Sun to the planets (I know this does not make sense much but for simplicity sake).

Distance from Sun to ~KmAUplanet center at [cm]
Mercury 5.790 * 10^7 0.387098 236
Venus 1.082 * 10^8 0.72333199 342
Earth 1.4959 * 10^8 1 496
(Earth to) Moon 383990 0.00255 14 from Earth

planetradius [km]earthmy model [cm]
Mercury 2439.7 0.3829 32.16
Venus 6051.8 0.949 79.71
Earth 6378.1 1 84
Moon 1.738 0.273 22.7

With this I can now render my planets, print them on a big format and attach them to the fabric that will represent the space. I'll link the planets showing the real distances.

Particle Systems

After I managed to come u with planet Earth that actually looks like the planet (as far as I know^^) I tried to model a comet and Sun. I'd like to buy a sheet of black fabric and onto it attach a part of the Sun, Merkur, Venus and Earth. These bodies would be linked with a string and distance would be noted. For that I need to come up with a way how to actually create Sun so I can print it.

I also tried to create a comet, because that could be a linking element for Fujiyama and the Space thing. But to no avail. I managed to create particle system that does what I want, but Motion Blur and Mental Ray don't like each other and rendering rendering one frame takes 30 minutes (WTF). Not sure if I even want to post screenshots.

Anyway I have no idea how to work with particle systems and forces like wind which was really helpful.

Earth Planet Attempt no. 7

Attempt at a good looking planet no.7
In the end I ended up with multilayered spheres with several maps and several lights in the scene. I found out something about 'Fog' and mental ray just did not want to do what I needed. So here comes .... something.

Earth Planet Attempt no.2

After some feedback I got I decided to work on atmosphere. So I started from the beginning. My previous scene crashed so I abandonned it. Here's the result of my today's trying.

Next time. I'll need more detailed textures and higher segmentation....as a close up gives something like this...

Space/Science

I tried for days to figure out a way how to paint or draw something from the universe, but nothing I did looked any good. So I finally decided to run 3ds max and try in there.

Japan

My exhibition should have 4-5 parts. My work is about finding my style or what is in me and to try to find it I would like to start with something I like. It makes it easier for me to express something.

There is
- Magic the Gathering
- Japan (Japanese pop culture)
- music games
- dance games
- space/science

I already have a painting for Magic (updated) and Music Games. My next step is Japan. I tried to think about what it should be on the painting and how it should be presented. I picked Mount Fuji as symbol of Japan and tried to paint it. But I'm more stuck with....erm sakura trees. Any help?

Exhibition Project

So in these two weeks we got we were probably supposed to come up with a presentation of our project. I simply have none. I have an idea but I'm not really sure what to do with it. In order to be able to carry it out I tried to familiarize with Abletton Live which would allow me to mix sounds in real time using whatever device comes to my mind. It works well and the software itself sync to the loaded tracks and even one can create tracks real time or just play them right away using a midi keyboard.

Class named Computer Interface Design Principles was something that gave us the opportunity to work with VJ/DJ software and to use a certain device to operate our performance. Since that time I wanted to do something similar but in a different way. This show I had was about videos and dance following a music that was pre-mixed. As I wouid most probably hardly do this in real time. I never received any verbal nor written feedback so I don't know if this was acceptable, good or even better. But it is something that I'd like to do again in the future.

What I wanted to do was to use my drum controller to operate a series of videos or frames creating something new and with the audience being able to hear the drums. But I decided against this. I can play some instruments to some extent but I'm not probably that good to play in public - well my professor did not think that but anyway it was me who declined all offers for becoming a professional pianist.

Anyway playing the piano and taking music lessons (that I hated a lot) is all I need to be able to produce 'music' of my own. I never thought of that in the past, but as my boyfriend noted - I have all the theoretical knowledge I need and he's most probably right. I hit a stone wall when it comes down to percussion but even with that I can slowly work towards something that can be good.

And well all this leads me to a project in which I would like to explore the world of sounds and music while still working with something visual and something solid (might not be that solid - looking at you bluetooth^_~) with one can interact with.

I'm more of a person who likes wires and cables but I could use Nintendo's Wii or Kinect technology...There are many options to choose from.

But what to do with all of this? At first I wanted something that when hit, passed by or whatever would produce a certain sound and would launch some kind of effect. People would have to try all the sensors to see what they can work with and then try to create something of their own. But if this would be sound based (more...like...tone based) it would probably require some musical skill already in order to be enjoyed fully or understood. That is why I'm trying to come up with something different. In the past 14 days I was trying to come up with patters that could be mixed with certain chords or melodies and would never sound disharmonic but still what is the purpose or meaning of this? Probably none...so well let's move on.

What should I do?

I simply don't know.

The Smile of You - Nekomata Master

Seems like finding a sheet music for this beautiful piece is almost impossible well might be available at nikovideo (but that did not come to my mind). Anyway certain Neko-chan played this piece on a piano and I loved it so much that I had to know the notes.

After a long time I came back to the song and tried to play it. But this song is in um ...whatever it is called ... anyway C moll and that's the worst it could be for me. I'm incapable of singing in C minor and reading notes in this, that's just insane (anything with more 'bs' is better).

So here is a piano version of an opening for the the game known as Elebits (at least in one region). This song is also featured in Beatmania IIDX Gold and it was my first another difficulty AA.

I really like the mood of this song. The song itself is very technical and precise but it evokes some kind of really strange mood in me... I just can't understand that^_^.

Enjoy.

The video was slowed down to match the length of the song. It runs at 130BPM instead of 136BPM. Also the video is at 29.xxx fps and the audio at 23.975 or something. So hm....Not sure what plays a bigger role in making the video slower.
